Do you ever get the nagging feeling that all you're doing here is biding your time, waiting? That no matter what your plans are they will be constantly thwarted and nothing will come of them?

I'm not meaning that nothing happens here as we're all constantly caught up in mysterious events and there is often violence but do you feel your own progress is stalled? Whether you are an inmate or a warden...

Relying on other people was never something I was good at.

I will be in the library for most of the day if anyone wishes to see me.

It shouldn't be difficult to find the dissatisfied ones. Regularly you'll see people making complaints about one thing or another here - most often about boredom.

It isn't always easy to get what you need here but you may come across a helpful warden or two who may not know any better who could find you your materials. Or another inmate, of course.

Your drugs... would be something like potions, I imagine. I've made some of those for the infirmary but my work is being closely watched or I would offer you more assistance. I've wanted to do more experimentation with such things here myself.

I can hardly blame them. This isn't a particularly stimulating environment.

Potions are an odd term for it, but I think they are similar. Organic chemistry, in all it's delicious forms. We may need to trade notes. I have to admit, I am somewhat jealous of your past access to the infirmry. I was trying to provoke someone to put me there the other day (it seemed easiest) but most of the wardens have far too much patience. Surprisingly.

Think of it as a quaint old-fashioned term where I come from.

My potions have access to the infirmary but alas, I have not. My warden did get me the ingredients for them though. Have you met him yet? Dr Hix?

I have not. I probably should - it seems beneficial for my long-term plan.

I take it you might be interested in being involved?

Perhaps indirectly. If you keep me informed of your progress I will see what I can do.

Hix is not somebody to confide in, by the way. He will stop any plan you have in its tracks - even if it were something harmless.

Duly noted, on both counts. I will keep you informed.

Thank you.

You have not been assigned a warden yourself as yet, have you?

Private - I'm so psyched for the 30th. :D

No, thank god. It's just about my worst nightmare.

You can either get very lucky or very unlucky there. Every warden is very different.

I'd rather have neither. Since it seems inevitable that I'll get one, I have to ask, is there any kind of screening process? It seems like just about anyone can be a warden.

I do not know how the Admiral chooses. Some are completely ineffectual while others are far too watchful. I suppose a good balance in between would be more ideal. So that rehabilitation can happen without so many restrictions.

The 'Admiral' probably picks from a hat filled with the names of anyone who turns up looking for work. It wouldn't surprise me. They don't even appear to have any kind of training course.
