Adric arrived, Tesseract (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-WyreE9ZkI) following behind him obediently. He didn't usually take his pet given to him by the Doctor everywhere, but he thought it would do good to show Gellert something that seemed 'magical' that wasn't magic at all.
"Hello. You're Gellert, right? I've seen you around."
Adric nodded. "I was reading it, too. Hix left a lot of no--uh...it was an interesting read." Then he pointed to his living hypercube. "That's Tesseract, it's a tesseract...it's a hypothetical math thing. Basically it's from another planet."
"Another planet? What does it do?" He questioned but then added, "What did Hix say about me? I wouldn't believe everything that he says... He was rather uptight and lacking in humour."
"I don't know...they're actually just little comments. Nothing major, like things you always say." He was downplaying it, and actually, he had difficulty believing that Hix was 'lacking in humour', as Adric had found various comments quite amusing. "And Tesseract doesn't do much. It rotates around in four dimensions and responds to theoretical mathematical equations."
"If I repeat myself it is because nobody listens - truly listens - to what I am saying," Gellert said wryly. "I have a couple of requests I need from you, if I may ask?"
"First, I would like a complete set of those Harry Potter books. I presume that Snape took off with them when he departed. I believe a copy should also be returned to the library for others to read. But I would like to keep one set so two copies would be required."
"Secondly, I have asked the infirmary staff about helping them by making potions - Snape used to make some so probably whatever he was making, as needed. For that I would need at least my basic healing powers back. You can be that specific with the Admiral, I am sure. I only want back the magic that allows me to heal - so I can then perform simple charms, for example to stop someone bleeding to death. I think it would be helpful, especially in times of crisis when doctors are sometimes too busy to see to anything but the most urgent ailments."
"I was told I had to wait until I had a warden to make the requests for me - so here you are."
"Of course you can have the books! I don't see why that would be a problem at all. And I'll request a new set for the library, as well."
As for the potions. "I'm not really sure what your potions can do that modern medicine can't, though. I mean, I do think it would be good for you to help in the infirmary, but maybe if you learned to do things without magic? Then you could help even when your magic was blocked!"
"Thank you about the books... I can do very little in this condition - alternatively you could ask the Admiral to drop 90 or so years off me instead," he looked amused, almost certain that wasn't going to happen without another flood.
"So you are saying Snape was useless to the infirmary by offering his potions? He'd be glad to hear that, I'm sure."
"You'd really prefer people to suffer longer instead of granting me basic magic with which I can do no harm?"
"I'm not saying that at all! I'm sure it was a help to have their stock built up a little more, I'm just saying it wouldn't have been less of a help if he learned muggle medicine, that's all." He'd learned that word from Gellert's file. "There's lots of things nonmagical folk can do now. I've heard on Earth...in the nonmagical parts, they use something called a defribulator? Defibrillator?" He stumbled over the word a bit before continuing. "Anyway, they can use this thing to send an electric shock that restarts a person's heart! And they have sleeping pills and painkillers and things that clot or unclot blood. I'm just not sure you realize how much of a difference there really isn't. Even Tesseract isn't magical, you know. Nor is the Doctor's time machine, which takes him anywhere and anywhen he'd like to go."
"Well then, maybe I could request it back when there are a lot of injuries, like during a port, but the rest of the time I think they do quite fine on their own. I'd like you to help out in the infirmary as a nurse though, to learn how much muggle medicine has changed. Believe me, I know, I visited Earth during plague era once, and it wasn't a terribly pretty place."
"No, I work in the library. I would be a hinderance in the infirmary without my powers."
"What if it was an emergency and you weren't around and then we would also have to wait for the Admiral to grant them - you are putting lives at risk without just cause."
"Not if you are dead or incapacitated in some other way - such as the recent flood. I maintain it is foolish to have me without at least the power to help people."
He looks irritated, patience wearing thin. "I have been without any of my powers for over two months. Most of the other inmates get punished much less for much worse than what I did here. I do not want to remain so usless - I can appreciate that the Muggles can get along without magic or my help but personally it is making me feel as if there is no point at all."
"It's not supposed to be a punishment, and you're not useless! ...fine. I'll let you be able to do one spell, but it has to be one that isn't dangerous and that helps others. I've got a question, though...do you still agree with what you did? The thing that brought you here?"
"I still believe that certain things should not remain hidden away but I know my methods were not right," Gellert replies, calmer. "I suppose one helpful spell is better than nothing..."
He considers this for a while before he replies. "A great deal of healing comes from potions so it would be of advantage to have that skill restored too. Potions can take sometimes months to complete so the sooner the better... As for a spell I know of a simple but obscure one that can seal wounds cleanly. I believe Muggles need to... stitch.. these kind of wounds but the injury would be almost instantly healed by this spell. So I think that one would be most beneficial here."
"I think that is all for now. Thank you for ... listening and please do not forget the books," his eyes fix on Adric steadily. "I do want to co-operate with you."
[ooc: Are we assuming that the set of books and his one magic spell appear/come back to him within the next days? Or did you want to do another post for it? I'm fine either way! ^_^ I think Adric may be good for him.]
[ooc: Assume. Adric will probably read the one set of books that goes to the library, too, before bringing them there. We can also assume the math/science lessons unless one will have a particularly interesting note. And yay! ^^]
[ooc: OK, cool. Gellert likes to learn new things but he also has a tendency to bore easily - so you'll get a mix of curiosity and boredom during those lessons. XD Thanks!]
