With the prior knowledge and permission of my warden I am offering up my services as a wizard to all of you. I can perform many helpful charms - such as giving you pleasant dreams in your sleep or duplicate a treasured item or make you feel more cheerful or even making you more attractive. Most of these will wear off over a limited amount of time but there are many other possibilities.

So request away! If I cannot do it I will let you know. But you won't know unless you ask.

Also, some requests may require a potion instead of a charm which may take a little longer but I will endevour to fulfil any requests that are within my power.

[Inmate filter - set up with a minor curse that any inmate who reveals this part to any warden will end up with a nasty rash and much annoying itching for a day or two.]

I will also perform harmless pranks on your wardens or fellow inmates but I do not want it getting back to my warden that I am the source of that particular mischief as he has very little sense of humour.

And yes, I do mean relatively harmless tricks - for example I can confuse them for a day; change their appearance in various ways for a short time; make them uncomfortable - perhaps by feeling itchy, ticklish or having to dance. These are mere examples. Ask me and I'll tell you if it can be done.

Sorry, I won't magically rip out their intestines for you, even though I do know how.

I will try.

Although it is stil very disappointing that neither of them will approach me. Am I really still so very fearsome?

You've got to remember the role you play in their minds. Who, in their lives, they might associate you with. It's understandable.

How am I ever going to prove that I am not as they assume if they refuse to talk to me? If they are comparing me to that so-called 'Dark Lord' Voldemort then... honestly, I would laugh if they said that I was like him. I didn't even have a fancy title. I think such grand titles are ridiculous.

But don't fear, Hix. I don't intend to bother Snape. He no longer interests me anyway. Are you forbidding me to also speak to the Malfoy boy?

No, don't you see... they both, in some respects, were elbow deep in what Voldemort was doing. The fact of how much you are or aren't unlike him doesn't matter. They do not want to be manipulated and used by you. They probably don't want to get elbow deep in with anyone who might even look, with a slight squint and if you stand on one leg, a little like that 'Dark Lord'. This is the legacy you have. Whether it's truly deserved or not, you have to accept that this is your legacy.

I never forbade you to speak to Snape. I asked you to respect his wishes. I would ask the same of Malfoy.

How you prove you're different? Act differently and mean it. You don't need to talk to them to do that.

That is partly the purpose of my offering to help people here.

It is rewarding to assist people, when they are willing to be helped.

Then that's the right sort of place to start. Stop worrying about whether they'll talk to you or not, and get down to showing you're not the man they might think you are.

I'm not worried about it. As I said Snape does not interest me any more. He was a source of information that I got instead from those books. I expect he'd simply be rude if I spoke with him anyway. Definately not someone to hold a pleasant conversation with, so not really a loss.

The same could probably be said of Draco, since I have read about them both.

Did you finish those books, by the way?

I finished them, yes.

I quite liked Snape in the books.

Because you're both dark and considered evil?

He was the deepest and most morally conflicted character person in the whole thing. Most interesting to read about, at least.

I'm sure he'd be interesting to converse with too - if he was more civil.

Like I said, not so important any more. You also are interesting to talk with.
